SLAA codependency focus friday meeting
“Each group has but one primary purpose -- to carry its message to the [sex and/or love addict and codependent] who still suffers".
- Tradition 5 (p. 151, 12 Steps And 12 Traditions)
WELOME!!!
We are glad you’re here.
We are a fellowship of people who are living in recovery from sex and love addiction and codependency, by following the 12-step program outlined in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous.
AM I A SEX/LOVE ADDICT OR CODEPENDENT?
If, when you honestly want to, you find you cannot quit entirely, or if when acting out* you have little control over your thinking and behavior, you might be a sex and/or love addict or a codependent.
*In our experience, acting out behaviors include the following:
Sex and love addiction: seeking romantic attention, romantic obsession/fantasies, compulsive masturbation, staying in or returning to painful and destructive relationships, becoming sexually involved with and/or emotionally attached to people without truly knowing them, compulsively avoiding intimacy, etc. At its core, sex and love addiction is about using relationships, sex, or fantasy as a way to escape oneself.
Codependency: people-pleasing that overrides one’s own boundaries, compulsive overthinking/rumination, seeking positive validation/attention/affirmation from other people in general and feeling agitated if not receiving it, seeking to control situations, events, life and other people and their emotions or behaviors in order to soothe oneself, as well as patterns of fawning, over-functioning, and losing contact with one´s own needs and desires, etc. Codependency can occur in any form of relationship, not only romantic ones.
Why we explore both together:
These patterns often overlap and reinforce each other. By examining them side by side, we create space to see more clearly how they interact and to support recovery from both.
WELCOME TO OUR MEETING!
We meet once a week so that newcomers can find us, and so that we can carry the message of recovery after having had a spiritual awakening. We study the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous in our meetings so that we can deepen our understanding of how to apply spiritual principles to our lives to live in recovery from sex and/or love addiction and codependency.
Meeting information can be found here.
WHO IS WELCOME?
This is an open meeting and as such all who have an interest in sex and love addiction and codependency, plus our program of recovery, are welcome.
Tradition 3 states, the only requirement for membership is the desire to stop living out a pattern of sex and/or love addiction and codependency. Any two or more persons gathering together for mutual aid in recovering from addiction may call themselves a 12-step group, provided that as a group they have no other affiliation.
Everyone is welcome.
If you think you can recover in some other way, or prefer a different spiritual approach, we encourage you to follow your own conscience. We have no monopoly on God; we merely have an approach that has worked for us.
